Paste a title and meta description to see roughly how they appear in a search result, and whether either one gets truncated.

Roughly how it will look

Your title tag appears here

Your meta description appears here. This is the text that has to earn the click.

An approximation. Google measures real pixel width in its own fonts, and it rewrites titles and descriptions when it decides something else fits the query better.

How to use this well

Google truncates by pixel width, not character count, so a title full of wide letters is cut sooner than one full of narrow ones. This tool estimates width rather than counting characters, which is why the limits are shown as approximate.

Google also rewrites titles and descriptions when it thinks something else matches the query better. A good description is still worth writing, because it is what gets shown most of the time and it is what earns the click.

This runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste is sent anywhere or stored.

Common questions

How long should a title tag be?

Around 60 characters is the usual guidance, but the real limit is about 580 pixels of width. This preview shows you when you cross it.

Does the meta description affect rankings?

Not directly. It affects whether someone clicks your result, which is the whole point of ranking in the first place.

Why does Google show something different from what I wrote?

Google rewrites descriptions when it finds text on the page that better matches the searcher's query. You cannot force it, and a clear, specific description makes a rewrite less likely.
