Glossary / Page speed
What is Page speed?
Page speed is how quickly your page loads and becomes usable. Slow pages lose visitors before they see anything, especially on phones.
Speed is not one number. What matters is when the main content appears and when the page starts responding to taps. A page that shows a spinner for four seconds has already lost a chunk of its mobile visitors.
The culprits are predictable. Oversized images, too many third-party scripts, chat widgets and trackers, fonts that block rendering, and cheap hosting. Images and scripts account for most of the damage on most sites.
Test with PageSpeed Insights or the Core Web Vitals report in Search Console, and test on a phone over mobile data rather than your office Wi-Fi. Fix the biggest item first, then measure again.
