What is Core Web Vitals?

Core Web Vitals are Google's measures of how a page feels to use: how fast it shows content, how fast it responds, and how much the layout shifts.

Three things get measured. Largest Contentful Paint is how long until the main thing on screen shows up. Interaction to Next Paint is how quickly the page reacts when you tap. Cumulative Layout Shift is how much the page jumps around while it loads.

You can check all three for free in Google Search Console or PageSpeed Insights. Both draw on data from real Chrome visits rather than a lab test, so the numbers reflect what your visitors actually get on their phones.

They are a small ranking factor, not a magic one. Good content on a slow page still beats thin content on a fast one. Fix them because a jumpy, sluggish page loses buyers, not because you expect a ranking jump.
