Glossary / Long-tail keyword

What is Long-tail keyword?

A long-tail keyword is a longer, more specific search phrase with fewer searches but clearer intent, like 'emergency plumber open Sunday Austin'.

Short keywords like 'plumber' get huge search numbers and brutal competition. Long-tail phrases get a trickle of searches each, but the searcher knows exactly what they want.

The math favors the tail. Dozens of specific phrases can add up to more total visitors than one big term, and those visitors convert better because your page matches their exact question.

Find long-tails in search suggestions, the questions customers ask you, and the 'people also ask' boxes on results pages. Answer one specific question per page.
