Glossary / Email open rate
What is Email open rate?
Email open rate is the percentage of recipients who opened your email. It is a rough gauge of subject line strength and list health.
If 500 people receive your email and 125 open it, your open rate is 25 percent. The subject line, the sender name, and the send time do most of the work.
Treat it as a trend, not a precise count. Privacy features in some email apps preload messages, which can inflate opens. Rising or falling over months tells you more than any single send.
To improve it, write subject lines that promise something specific, send from a recognizable name, and cut subscribers who have not opened anything in months.
