Glossary / Click-through rate (CTR)
What is Click-through rate (CTR)?
Click-through rate is the percentage of people who saw a link and clicked it. It tells you whether your headline or subject line earned attention.
If 1,000 people see your search listing and 30 click it, your CTR is 3 percent. The same math applies to email links, social posts, and ads. It measures the promise, not the product.
Low CTR usually means the headline, subject line, or preview text did not connect. High CTR with poor sales means the page behind the click broke the promise. The two numbers together tell the real story.
Compare CTR against your own history, not against generic benchmarks. Your audience, offer, and channel make your normal different from everyone else's.
