Glossary / SERP

What is SERP?

SERP stands for search engine results page, the page you see after typing a search. Where and how you appear on it decides your click share.

Type a query, press enter, and the page that loads is the SERP. It holds ads at the top, regular results below, and features like maps, images, and question boxes mixed in.

Position matters enormously. The further down a result sits, the fewer clicks it gets, and page two might as well be private. SERP features can also push regular results down or answer the question outright.

Study the SERP for your target keyword before writing. It shows the format that ranks, the competitors you face, and whether a map pack or shopping results will crowd you out.
