Glossary / Email client
What is Email client?
An email client is the app someone reads your email in, like Gmail, Outlook, or Apple Mail. Each one renders your design a little differently.
Your email does not look one way. It looks however the reader's app decides to draw it. Gmail on a phone, Outlook on a work laptop, and Apple Mail on a tablet can produce three noticeably different results from the same code.
The differences are real and old. Some clients ignore modern layout rules. Some block images until the reader allows them. Some cut off long messages with a 'view entire message' link that hides your footer.
Design defensively. Single-column layouts survive best. Assume images may not load, so the message should still make sense as plain text. Send yourself a test in two or three clients before every important campaign.
