Glossary / Content pruning

What is Content pruning?

Content pruning is deliberately removing, merging or redirecting weak pages so the strong ones carry more weight.

Sites accumulate pages that no longer earn their place: posts nobody reads, campaign pages long finished, three thin articles that should have been one good one. Each still consumes crawl attention and dilutes the site's focus.

Pruning is the decision to act on that. Merge overlapping pages into the best one and redirect the rest, update anything still valuable but out of date, and remove what has no audience and no purpose.

It feels like going backwards and usually is not. Fewer, better pages concentrate authority and make it clearer what the site is actually about.

In Creaiter

Creaiter's content audit view flags overlapping and decaying pages, so the keep, merge, refresh or delete call is made against numbers.
