Glossary / Zero-click search

What is Zero-click search?

A zero-click search is one where the searcher gets their answer on the results page and never visits a website.

Weather, conversions, definitions, opening hours and now a growing share of how-to questions are answered directly in the results. The search succeeded and no site got a visit.

This is not new, but AI summaries widened it considerably. Queries whose complete answer fits in a sentence are the most exposed, and no amount of ranking work changes that.

The response is strategic rather than technical. Weight your content towards questions where knowing the answer is not the same as being finished, build queries that need your specific tool, data or opinion, and own a channel where people come back directly.
