Glossary / SERP features

What is SERP features?

SERP features are the parts of a results page that are not ordinary blue links: snippets, maps, images, questions, ads and AI summaries.

A modern results page is mostly not a list of ten links. Depending on the query it can carry a featured snippet, a local map pack, images, videos, shopping results, a knowledge panel, related questions and an AI summary.

This matters for expectations. Ranking first below three ads, a map and a summary is a very different amount of attention from ranking first on a plain page, and rank alone will not tell you which you have.

Before targeting a keyword, look at the actual results page. Which features occupy it decides both what a good position is worth and what format your page needs to be in to qualify.
