What is Hashtag?
A hashtag is a keyword with a # in front that groups posts by topic, so people browsing that topic can find yours.
Tagging a post drops it into a public bucket. Someone following or searching that tag can find you without following you first. That is the whole mechanism.
How much they help depends on the platform. On Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn they still aid discovery. Broad tags put you in a flood. Narrower ones reach fewer people who care more.
Keep it to a handful that describe the post honestly. Stuffing twenty tags looks like spam and rarely brings the right reader.
