Glossary / GDPR

What is GDPR?

GDPR is a European privacy law about how you collect and use personal data. In marketing terms: get real consent, explain why, and let people leave.

GDPR covers personal data belonging to people in the European Union and the European Economic Area. It applies based on where your contacts are, not where your business is. A shop in Ohio with subscribers in Ireland is in scope.

The marketing obligations, plainly: collect consent that is freely given and specific, so no pre-ticked boxes. Say what you will do with the data before you collect it. Keep a record of who agreed and when. Let people see, correct, or delete what you hold, and make leaving as easy as joining.

This is a plain-English summary, not legal advice. Other regions have their own rules and they keep changing. If a meaningful share of your audience is in Europe, get a lawyer to review your forms and your data handling.

In Creaiter

Creaiter stores contacts with unsubscribe and suppression handling built in, which covers part of the picture, though compliance stays your responsibility.
