Glossary / CAN-SPAM Act
What is CAN-SPAM Act?
CAN-SPAM is a United States law setting rules for commercial email: tell the truth, say who you are, and let people opt out easily.
CAN-SPAM applies to commercial email sent to people in the United States. In plain terms it asks for honesty and an exit. Your sender name and subject line must not mislead, and an advertisement has to be recognizable as one.
The practical obligations are short. Include a real physical mailing address. Give a clear way to unsubscribe. Honor opt-outs promptly. Do not sell or hand off an address after someone has opted out. If you hire an agency to send for you, you are still responsible.
This is a plain-English summary, not legal advice. If email is a large part of your business, have a lawyer review your practices, especially if you send across borders where other rules also apply.
In Creaiter
Creaiter handles unsubscribes and suppression automatically, so an opt-out is honored on the next send without you tracking it by hand.
