Glossary / Content velocity

What is Content velocity?

Content velocity is how much content you publish in a given period. It is a useful capacity measure and a dangerous goal.

As a diagnostic it is fine: knowing you publish four pieces a month tells you what your calendar can actually hold and whether a plan is realistic.

As a target it distorts everything. The fastest way to raise velocity is to lower the bar, and once publishing is nearly free the number stops correlating with anything that matters.

Pair it with an outcome metric or drop it. Pieces published next to pieces that earned a link, a reply or a signup is a chart worth looking at. Pieces published alone is a chart that only ever goes up.
