Glossary / Cold email
What is Cold email?
A cold email is an unsolicited message to someone who never asked to hear from you. It is sales outreach, not marketing email, and the rules differ.
Cold email goes to a person who never signed up. A salesperson researches a company, finds a contact, and writes to them directly. It is a one-to-one sales motion wearing an email costume.
Keep it separate from your marketing list. Cold outreach sent through the same domain and tools as your newsletter can drag down delivery for everyone on that list. Teams that do both usually run cold outreach on its own domain for exactly that reason.
Laws vary by country, and some places treat unsolicited commercial email far more strictly than the United States does. This is not legal advice. Check the rules where your recipients live before you send.
