Glossary / Anchor text

What is Anchor text?

Anchor text is the visible, clickable words in a link. It tells people and search engines what the linked page is about.

Every link on a page has words you can see and click. That is the anchor text. 'Read our sourdough starter guide' is anchor text. So is 'click here', which tells nobody anything.

Search engines use those words as a clue about the destination. Readers use them to decide whether the link is worth a click. People on screen readers often jump from link to link, so vague wording hurts them most of all.

Keep it natural. Repeating the same exact keyword in every link looks manipulative, and stuffed anchor text has been a spam signal for years. Describe the page, then move on.

In Creaiter

When Creaiter drafts a post, you can ask it to rewrite vague link text into wording that names the page it points to.
