Glossary / SPF record
What is SPF record?
An SPF record is a DNS entry listing which servers may send email using your domain, so receivers can spot forgeries.
SPF stands for Sender Policy Framework. It is a single line published in your domain's DNS naming the services allowed to send on your behalf, such as your email platform and your own mail server.
When a message arrives, the receiving server checks whether it came from a listed source. If not, the message is more likely to be treated as spoofed and filtered.
It is one of three records that decide whether your email reaches inboxes at all, alongside DKIM and DMARC, and it is the simplest of them to get right.
