Glossary / Native advertising
What is Native advertising?
Native advertising is paid content built to look and read like the publication it sits in, and labeled as sponsored.
Instead of a banner beside the article, the ad is the article. It matches the site's format and style, and it carries a label such as sponsored or paid partnership.
It works because people ignore things that look like ads. It fails when the label is buried and the reader feels tricked. Disclosure rules exist for exactly that reason, and hiding the label is both a legal risk and a trust risk.
Judge it like content, not like an ad. If the piece would be worth reading with the brand name removed, it will earn attention. If not, matching the fonts will not save it.
