Glossary / Brand guidelines
What is Brand guidelines?
Brand guidelines are the written rules for how your brand looks and sounds, so every person and every channel stays recognizably you.
A brand guide covers two halves. The visual half is logo, colors, type, and image style. The verbal half is voice, tone, the words you use, and the words you never use.
The verbal half gets skipped most often, and it shows. A warm homepage next to a stiff billing email reads like two different companies. Write down three or four voice traits and a short list of banned words. That is enough to start.
Guidelines only work if people can find them and read them fast. A one-page guide that gets used beats a forty-page file nobody opens.
